GUILD DARKMOOR

Faction History
Guild Darkmoor, while considered by most nothing more than a common thieves guild, is an organzation with roots much deeper in the dark analects of history. This history reaches back over 3000 years and speaks of great power and wealth. It is common knowledge to members of the Guild that in centuries past their ancestors ruled entire kingdoms, pulling the strings of kings and queens to serve their own aims. Yet this power, along with many of their ancient secrets, has been lost. Little else is publicly known about the origins of the Guild, though to a few select members further knowledge has been granted. The Book of Odjil, kept by the Guildmaster Cohl Volorn, holds further details about the Guild's true history. As Guildmaster, his primary purpose is to direct the activities of the Guild while protecting the secrets within The Book of Odjil until the rebirth and restoration of the Guild's ancient secrets.

Guild policy prohibits the keeping of any personal records and not many within the guild are brave enough to violate this policy. Unknown to most, however, there is an official keeper of the records who is only referred to as the Keeper. The secrecy of the Keeper's true identity is extremely well protected as he holds a listing of all members and activities of the Guild. It is also this man's responsibility to maintain the Guild history and keep a record of the happenings in the kingdom. According to the recent logs in The Keeper's Tome the Guild leadership has recently undergone a shift.

"It becomes apparent to me that brother Volorn has determined his step-father's reign no longer sufficient to the needs of the Guild. But time will reveal the truths behind his actions; yes, in time it will be whispered on wings of fire, though most will never extract their true meaning. Voices carry the words like whispers to my mind, my mind, my mind.... Under scarlet stars the new son rises so the Odjil speaks and I do listen, and write. Always I shall write until my days proclaim me free of the Keepers curse. As I wander the halls the smoke turns to living shadows..." (excerpt from The Keeper's Tome).

Most members of the Guild know nothing of the book, yet on occasion it is possible to hear small excerpts whispered in dark places. One such whisper tells of a rebirth which will restore the Guild to its proper position: "Upon the backs of beasts, crowned in the blood of the falsely innocent, the Brotherhood again returns to the throne. Then with servants of spirit and flesh shall they restore the honor so unjustly tarnished by the servants of the sapphire angel...."

Heraldry
Guild Darkmoor's history is shrouded with half-truths and lies, yet within their crest one can see some strands of truth. The black field represents their social standing; only under the veil of darkness and the gaze of the moon may they act. The moon gazes calmly to the east: this symbol references their true origins in the east. Gazing toward their rebirth the moon watches calmly in the night, guiding the actions of its followers. The inner crescent marks the first uprising which is believed to soon begin, while the larger crescent is the true strength of the Guild.

Known Faction Members

Gregous Elkwood

Born the son of a ranger, Gregous spent many years learning the woodland arts. His skill with the crossbow is unmatched in the city and he is more than content to show it off each New Life Festival during the archery tournament. Though he enjoys the life of the city, his true passion remains the woods and much of his time is spent there, or so he tells people. Recently he has come under suspicion of local law enforcement who are tracking a trail of murders all performed with great skill using a crossbow from the high reaches of dark rooftops. While no arrests have been made, Gregous’s life has become a little more interesting than the self-prescribed woodsman would like.

Swaimy Jonias

The Jonias family is well respected within the city; Swaimy isn't. When the Jonias family attends a party the first thing the hostess wants to know is whether Swaimy is attending or not for it is well known that when Swaimy attends rare, and often extremely valuable items tend to disappear. Given to wearing the garb of the common rif-raff and carrying a vocabulary about as dirty Swaimy is quietly disdained by most of the aristrocracy. These days most tend to simply hide away anything they are fearful of losing and hope the benefits of the Jonias family attending their event outweighs the loss of any jewels or trinkets.

Vinnious Macrentire

Vinnious, like many street urchins, grew up facing a harsh life where bread was worth more than jewels. To his fortune he fell in with a down-on-his-luck old man who swore he used to serve a prince as his sword instructor, but was run off after an affair with the prince's sister. Vinnious always laughs when sharing the tale and most don't know whether he believes it himself, but it's readily apparent that the old man knew what he was talking about when it came to using a blade. His delight with drawing on his victims using either dagger or sword as a brush has earned him the title of "Vinnie the Blade” and his reputation precedes him.

Jasper Quinn

Jasper is a quiet fellow who is prone to lurking in the shadows observing the world around him. Friendly and ready to share a few quiet words when spoken to, most are willing to call him friend. But when the night comes Jasper becomes much more than a silent shadow. Traversing the rooftops he finds joy in pilfering the great riches of corrupt city officials. Always paying his percentage to the Guild it is suspected that Jasper has collected a vast treasure, but what he has done with it is as much a mystery as his midnight adventures.
