Day Two:
Today found us in Cleveland, Ohio where we sat down to teach the managers of Compendium Collectibles. The three weren’t playing a demo, they were playing to win. It all boils down to this one brilliant tactic: Kirk, his wife George-Anne, and the night manager Scott were the ones playing. Kirk asked George-Anne to trade two economic to her for two political so that he could provide more assistance in eliminating the red dragon who was plaguing the city. The trade finished, Kirk played Feronant Domar, which George-Anne already had in play. George-Anne had a single retainer in the Lawyer which she then used to keep Feronant from leaving her service. The following turn… J.T. and I struggled to maintain straight faces while George-Anne and Scott made their moves, knowing what Kirk had up his sleeve. Kirk’s turn: With George-Anne’s retainer exhausted, Kirk plays his copy of Larion Eldrin, stealing him away from the very person who had traded him the political influence to put Feronant into play and who he had conned into using their retainer so that they would lose their copy of Larion when he played his! This is not the play of an infant Allegiance player. No, this is the move of man born to play this game. Please, Kirk, take a bow.
Even though J.T. and I delighted in Kirk’s dastardly and devious planning, our day’s fun was not yet over as we ended the day with a rather exciting triumph of our own. The cyber café, the Battlegrounds, in Kent, Ohio now carries one line of gaming products: Allegiance. With the good folks of Spellbinders utilizing the tables at the Battlegrounds for their open gaming (since they have not the room to do so at their own establishment), and the friendly faces of the Ohio Gamer’s Organization’s support and love for the game, Jerry of the Battlegrounds, figured it only wise to offer them the product straight through the cyber café since they’d be playing there anyway. Carry on, friends, may you gain massive amounts of influence.
